The iPad-optimized version of netflix.com makes it easy to browse movies and add them to your queue. Video plays via the Netflix app, available on the App Store. Netflix is a company straddling two forms of technology – it has one foot in old technology, with an online DVD service using postal delivery. The other foot is firmly in the twenty-first century, offering an online streaming service. Now, it has teamed-up with Apple's iPad to offer one of the first and best iPad video apps.

Unbelievable Netflix App!
The Netflix app is set-out exactly the same way as the website, so it's easy to scroll through its movie and TV show database by using the touch-screen tablet. The app, like the site has the red design and is simple, but ultimately user-friendly.

What is the quality of the HD video content here? What type of service or video is this site offering and how good is the image quality?.
Image quality on the Netflix iPad player is high due to all the content on Netflix being produced by renowned networks and film production companies. Yes, there are HD movies, but that's not the real buzz here. This is no HD specialist, Netflix is a movie database specialist. The one thing the app is missing is the ability to turn the image into full-screen, which can be done on iPhone.

Speed of software. How long does it take to watch a video or download here? Are there clear instructions or will this give my computer a virus? .
The movies can take a little time to boot on the iPad tablet (depending on the size of the stream) but once ready, the quality is second to none. The software works so well with iPad, it's as if the two products were made for each other. It's been tried many times before (portable DVDs and TVs anyone?), but this could signal the true start of watching a film while on the go. Great for those long journeys, lazy afternoons – you can even take it to the beach! The world is now a cinema!

Its continued operation across two technologies shows its understanding of a market in transition and of a customer base that has a range of needs. The most innovative thing here, though, is the fact that when you turn the iPad on its side, the video image immediately turns. No rendering, no waiting. Just flip it around and watch.
